Gujarat Fresh

Out here at Village Ratidhar in Talala Gir, things move a bit slower than they do in the city. Gujarat Fresh is based right in the middle of all this greenery. We are surrounded by orchards and fields, so the air is usually pretty clean, though it gets very dusty during the harvest. Our building is simple and sits right on the edge of the village. Most of us who work here live just a short walk or bike ride away. We spend our days dealing with the produce that comes in from the local farms. There’s a lot of sorting, packing, and checking for quality. It’s physical work, and your hands usually end up dirty by the end of the shift. We don’t have a fancy office with air conditioning; we just open the windows and hope for a breeze. During the mango season, it gets incredibly busy and we're often working late into the night. We sit on plastic chairs during our breaks and talk about the weather or the crops. It’s a very local operation. We know everyone in the village and most of the farmers by name. There aren't any corporate meetings here. We just look at what’s in front of us and make sure it’s ready to be sent out. It’s honest work in a beautiful part of the world, and we like it just fine that way.
