Our workshop at Vinod Handicrafts is in the industrial area of Basni, Phase-II. The address is E-15B, and it’s pretty much what you’d expect from a place like MIA. It’s hot, dusty, and there is always the sound of machines or hammers in the background. We have a lot of raw materials sitting around—wood, metal, and stone. The artisans work in the open areas where there’s a bit of a breeze. We don't have a fancy showroom with air conditioning. If you come to see us, you’re going to see the actual work being done, sawdust and all. The walls are stained from years of use, and the floor is uneven in places. We spend our days overseeing the production and checking the pieces as they come off the line. Each item has its own quirks because they aren't made by machines in a factory far away. We keep our records in big ledgers and on an old computer that takes its time to start up. The tea stall down the road is where we get our breaks, and the sun can be really punishing in the afternoons. It’s hard work, and your hands get dirty within five minutes of being here. But there is a certain rhythm to the work that feels right. We don't do much in the way of sales talk; the items we make speak for themselves.
