Triveni Art & Crafts

Down in the First Phase of Basni, things are mostly industrial and grey. Our place, Triveni Art & Crafts, is one of those buildings where there’s always something being made or moved. We deal with various materials to create different pieces, and that usually means a lot of mess on the floor by the end of the day. You can hear the sounds of tools being used from the moment we open the shutters in the morning. We don’t have a big sign or a bright storefront. It’s more of a workshop where people are focused on their hands and the materials. There are unfinished bits and pieces sitting on every shelf, waiting for the next step. Sometimes it gets quite hot under the tin roof, but we just keep the big doors open to get a breeze. We spend time checking the details on every item, making sure nothing is cracked or wobbly. It’s not like those shops in the city where everything is under bright lights. Here, everything is covered in a bit of fine dust until it’s finally cleaned and packed up for transport. We move crates back and forth, and the tea guy comes by twice a day which is when we actually take a break and sit for a minute. It’s a lot of physical work, and our clothes usually show it by the time we head home in the evening.
