Suraj Dal Mill

You can find us on Bharoli Road in the Mangadpura Market area. We are located pretty close to the HDFC Bank, which makes it easy for farmers and traders to find us. The mill is usually a cloud of dust because of all the pulses being processed. We spend the day hauling heavy bags of dal around and running the grinders. It is hard physical work and the noise is constant once the motors start humming in the morning. The market outside is always chaotic with carts and tractors blocked in the narrow streets. We have to keep a close eye on the quality of the grain coming in from the local fields. Sometimes the moisture is too high and we have to spread it out to dry on the floor. The building is old and the roof leaks a little bit when it rains hard in Mangadpura, so we have to move the stock around to keep it dry. We don't have a website or any of that, we just deal with people face to face at the mill. It is a basic operation where the focus is just on getting the dal cleaned and split correctly. Most of our day is spent covered in a fine layer of flour and sweat. By the time we shut the heavy metal doors at night, we are ready for a rest.
