About Jai Ambey Leather Handicraft – Art & Craft in Jodhpur
You can find us over at J 161 Hudco Quarter. It’s right behind the Bijli Ghar and very close to the Shera Wali Mata Mandir. In fact, if you get lost, just ask anyone for the temple in Sanjay Gandhi Colony and they’ll point you the right way. Our place smells like raw leather and polish all the time. We’ve got piles of hides in the corner and tools scattered across the workbenches. It’s a bit of a mess, honestly, but that’s how we know where everything is. We spend our days cutting, stitching, and finishing different leather pieces by hand. It’s slow work, and your fingers start to ache by the afternoon, but we’ve been doing it this way for years. My brother and a few cousins usually help out when there’s a big order. We don’t have a big storefront with glass windows. It’s more of a workshop where people who know us just drop by. The neighborhood is always noisy with kids playing and people going to the temple. Sometimes we sit outside on the steps during tea time just to watch the street. We aren’t trying to be the biggest leather shop in the world. We just want to make things that don't fall apart after a month. It’s honest work, and it keeps us busy from morning till the street lights come on near the power house.
