About Rajasthan Arts & Crafts House – Art & Craft in Jodhpur
Being near the Circuit House means we get a lot of people passing by on their way to Umaid Bhawan Palace. This area is always busy with tourists and locals alike. Rajasthan Arts & Crafts House has been sitting on this road for quite some years now. It’s an old building, nothing too modern, but it stays relatively cool inside during the afternoons. We have piles of stuff everywhere. Textiles, some old brass, and lots of carvings. It's a bit of a mess if I'm being honest, but we know where everything is. My family has been doing this for a long time. We aren't a big corporation. We just open the doors in the morning and wait to see who comes in. Sometimes it’s quiet and we just sit and talk. Other days, it's packed. We try to keep things that show what people in this part of India actually make with their hands. There’s no big sales pitch here. You walk in, look around, and if you like something, we talk. The road outside is noisy with rickshaws and cars. We get used to it after a while. The dust comes in from the street, so we are always dusting the shelves. It’s just a regular shop. We focus on getting things from local makers who don't have their own stores. It keeps the tradition going, I guess. That’s our daily life here on the Palace Road.
