Mehta Sugar Co

Working out of Krishi Mandi in Jodhpur is always a busy experience. Mehta Sugar Co is right here in Sector-11, Hiran Magri. We deal mostly in sugar, as the name says, but it’s more about the daily hustle of the mandi life. There are trucks coming in and out at all hours of the day. It is dusty and loud, but that is how a market works. We have large bags of sugar stacked high in the back of the warehouse. The air always smells a bit sweet here. Jodhpur can get incredibly hot, so the warehouse can be a bit stifling in the afternoons. We aren't a fancy retail shop where people buy one or two items. It’s more about the local traders and those who need larger quantities for their own businesses. I sit at a wooden desk with a lot of papers and my phone is usually ringing. We've been in this spot for many years. Hiran Magri has seen a lot of changes, but the mandi stays pretty much the same. People come in to check the rates and talk about the harvest. It’s a very practical environment. There’s no room for fluff here. You just weigh the bags, settle the bills, and move on to the next task. Sometimes we share tea with the other shop owners nearby when things slow down in the evening. It’s a tough job but it’s what we know. The Krishi Mandi is our second home, really.
