Latiyal Handicrafts is based at Unit 1 on Pal Road, right near the Latiyal Vatika. If you are looking for us, the Vatika is usually the best way to find the turn-off. Our workspace is pretty much what you would expect for a place that makes things by hand. There is a lot of sawdust in the air and the smell of raw materials is everywhere. It’s a big open space where people are always moving around, moving pieces from one corner to another. We don’t have an air-conditioned showroom or anything like that. It’s a working unit, so it gets dusty and loud. We have a few old fans that hum all day long. The floor is concrete and usually covered in scraps. It is a very hands-on environment. Most of us have been working together for years, so we don't need to talk much to know what needs to happen next. We take our breaks together outside when the weather allows. Pal Road can get pretty busy with trucks and traffic, but once you are inside the gate, we are just focused on the wood and the tools. It’s a simple way to earn a living, and we just like showing up and doing the work without making a big deal out of it. It’s messy, it’s loud, and it’s exactly how we like it when we are in the middle of a job.
