About Jankee Handicraft Export – Art & Craft in Jodhpur
Jankee House is our home base here in the Hia area. We occupy units 5-6/14, which gives us enough room to manage all the handicraft exports we handle. The area is mostly industrial and commercial, so there are always trucks moving in and out of the lanes. We spend a lot of time in the back where the packing happens. Exporting means there is a lot of bubble wrap and tape involved every single day. We have to be careful with the items because they are fragile. The building itself is an older one, but it's sturdy and keeps the sun out during those really hot months. We have a small crew here. Some have been with us since the beginning, while others are newer faces from the locality. We start the day by going over the orders and seeing what needs to go out first. It’s not exactly quiet work; you can usually hear the sound of crates being nailed shut or the tape dispensers running. We drink a lot of tea to keep going, especially during the busy season. We don't spend much time on fancy decorations or making the front look like a showroom. It’s more of a workspace where things actually happen. The Hia district is a good spot for us because of the transport links, which makes moving the goods a bit easier than being in the middle of a crowded residential street, even if it gets loud.
