This is the R&D and SS section, specifically the MMPD group in Jamshedpur. Our address is right in the thick of the industrial zone with the 831001 pin code. Even though the name says research and development, it’s not all clean lab coats and quiet rooms. It’s a lot of testing, getting your hands dirty, and trying to figure out why things aren’t working the way they should. We spend a lot of time looking at samples and running machines that make a lot of noise. The building is an older one, like much of Jamshedpur, and it has that smell of grease and old paper. We have our desks cluttered with drawings and reports. Outside, the city is always moving, but inside we are focused on the small details of the steel. It gets incredibly hot in the summer, and the fans just move the warm air around, but we get used to it. We aren’t here to make grand statements. We just look at the metal and try to make it do what it's supposed to. Some days are slow, just waiting for results, and other days are a mad scramble to fix a problem. It’s a steady job. We have our regulars who have been here for decades, and they know every quirk of the equipment. We just keep the experiments running and record the data, making sure the whole process stays steady for everyone involved.
