Gajanan Steel

Our workshop, Gajanan Steel, sits right on the Jamnagar Highway at Krishnanagar 4. Being located at P No. 39/40 means we get a lot of noise from the passing trucks and buses all day long. It’s a gritty kind of job, working with metal and heavy machinery. There is always the sound of cutting or welding going on in the background. We don't have a showroom with bright lights. Instead, you'll find stacks of steel rods and sheets piled up in the yard. The air usually smells like iron and grease. It’s hard work, and your hands get dirty within the first five minutes of the shift. We started out small in Jamkhambhalia and just kept at it over the years. Most of our customers are builders or local contractors who need materials for their projects. We don't spend much time on the computer unless we have to check a price or an invoice. Most of our business is done face-to-face or over a quick phone call. When the wind picks up off the highway, it blows a lot of dust into the workspace, so we spend a lot of time sweeping the floor. It’s not a glamorous life, but there’s a certain satisfaction in seeing a finished pile of steel ready to go out on a truck. We just show up, do the work, and go home tired at the end of the day. It’s a steady job and it keeps the lights on for everyone here.
