Shastri Memorial Higher Secondary School

If you head down Toph Morh Road in Subhashnagar, you will find our school. It’s a higher secondary school, which means we have the older kids finishing up their final years. The location is quite central for people living around Subash Nagar in Jammu. The building itself is a bit older, with some patches of paint peeling here and there, but it stays sturdy. We have a lot of stairs because of how the rooms are laid out. The students usually spend their breaks sitting on the steps or walking along the verandah. It gets quite busy when school lets out and everyone is trying to get onto the main road at once. Inside, the rooms are filled with the sound of chalk on boards and the occasional murmur of a lesson. We have a library that has a lot of old books that the students still use for their projects. The teachers here have their own way of doing things, usually focusing on making sure the kids understand the basics before the big exams. There isn't much for decoration on the walls, just some old charts and student drawings from years ago. It’s a straightforward school where the main goal is just getting through the day's lessons. We see a lot of bicycles parked outside near the entrance. Most of the staff has been here for a decade or more, so they know the neighborhood and the families very well.
