Rachna Restaurant

Shalamar Road is a busy part of Jammu and that is where you will find Rachna Restaurant. We are right near the Punjab National Bank, so we see people going in and out of there all day long. It’s a 180001 zip code area that stays active from morning until late. We started this because we needed something to do and we knew how to cook. It is not a fancy place with decorations or anything like that. We have some chairs and tables and a kitchen that stays busy. The weather in Jammu can be quite something, either very hot or really cold, so we spend a lot of time adjusting the fans or trying to keep the draft out. We don't have a lot of staff, usually just family or a couple of helpers who have been with us forever. We talk to the customers about the weather or the news while they wait. It’s a local spot, nothing more. We don't use any special machines, just the same pots and pans we've had for years. Sometimes the bank employees come over when they have a break. We know most of them by name now. It’s a simple life running a restaurant on Shalamar Road. We just hope the electricity stays on and the supplies arrive on time. There is always something to clean or something to fix, but that's just part of the business.
