Shree Ganesh Rice Mill

You can find us right on Jalandhar Road, not far from the bus stand. It’s a busy spot with trucks coming and going all the time. Being near the bus stand means there is always noise and people around, which keeps things interesting. The mill itself has been here for years. It’s a big space filled with the smell of grain and the sound of the hulling machines. We spend most of our time dealing with the farmers who bring their harvest in. It is a lot of heavy lifting, moving bags around and making sure the rice is processed right. The dust gets everywhere, even in your hair and clothes, but that is part of the job. Some days are longer than others, especially during the harvest season when the tractors are lined up outside on the road. We don't have a big corporate team or anything fancy like that. It’s just a handful of us making sure the machines don’t break down in the middle of a shift. We take breaks when we can, usually sitting on the steps with a cup of tea while the traffic passes by. The building is old and the paint is peeling in some places, but it does what it needs to do. We just focus on getting the work done every day and making sure the grain is ready for the market. It is a simple life centered around the cycles of the local crops.
