Shekhawati Tent House

Working at Shekhawati Tent House means we are always on the move. Our home base is on the Khatipura Jhotwara Main Road. If you walk past, you will see piles of metal pipes, rolls of colorful fabric, and maybe some wooden platforms stacked up. It’s a bit of a mess sometimes, but I know exactly where everything is. When there is a wedding or a big function, the whole place turns into a hive of activity. We load the tempos with heavy carpets and poles early in the morning. My back usually aches by the end of the day because there is so much lifting. The main road is always noisy with buses and bikes zooming past our entrance. We don't have a fancy showroom. People just come in, look at the fabric samples we have, and tell us what they need for their event. I spend a lot of time on the phone coordinating with the laborers. Sometimes the weather doesn't help us, like when it rains suddenly and we have to rush to cover everything with plastic sheets. It’s a lot of physical labor and logistics. I've been doing this for years and I can tell you exactly how many poles it takes to set up a standard tent just by looking at the space. It is a tough business but it keeps us busy all year round. We keep the smaller items like decorative lights in old wooden crates.
