Surendra Tent House

Our yard is out on Ambabari Chomu Road, and it’s usually filled with poles, rolled-up carpets, and stacks of plastic chairs. Tent work is a tough business because it’s mostly physical labor and dealing with the weather. When it’s wedding season, we are barely home. We are out there setting up big colorful canopies and fixing the lights for parties all over the city. The sun can be really brutal when you’re standing on a ladder trying to pull a heavy cloth over a frame. We have a few old trucks that we use to move the stuff around, and they are always needing some kind of repair. It’s not a glamorous job, but we’ve been doing it for a long time now. People come to us when they have a function at home, even if it’s just a small prayer meeting and they need twenty chairs. We don't have a big office or anything, just a small desk in the corner where we write down the bookings in a diary. Sometimes things get stained or a chair breaks, and we have to spend the off-season fixing everything up. It’s hard work, and your back usually aches by the end of the day. But we know how to put up a solid structure that won't fall down if the wind picks up. That is just what we do here.
