New Ashoka Tent House

New Ashoka Tent House is located right on Amer Road. If you’ve driven past this way, you’ve probably seen our stacks of poles and folded-up fabrics waiting to be loaded. Working with tents is a lot of physical labor. We spend our days hauling heavy canvases and metal frames in and out of the storage space. Amer Road can get pretty packed with traffic, especially with tourists heading up to the fort, so moving our gear around takes some planning. It isn’t a glamorous job. There’s a lot of dust and the sun can be really hot when we are out setting things up. We don’t have a big office with soft chairs; mostly it’s just a space where we keep the supplies and a small area to sit and talk to people who come by. We’ve been doing this for years, so we know which poles go with which fabric without even looking at a manual anymore. Sometimes the ropes get tangled or a piece of cloth gets a small tear that we have to patch up by hand. We just do the work as it comes. Whether it's a small gathering or something bigger, the routine is the same: load the truck, drive to the spot, and get it all standing up straight. When the event is over, we take it all down and bring it back to Amer Road. That is pretty much our life here at the shop.
