Rp General Store

The sun hits the front of Rp General Store pretty hard in the afternoons here in Jaipur. We are located on Gandhi Pathq, which stays fairly active throughout the week. I spend most of my mornings checking the bags of flour and making sure the jars are lined up right. It’s a lot of work keeping a general store running by yourself. You have to remember who likes which brand of tea and who is waiting for the fresh stock of spices to arrive. I’ve lived in this area for a long time, so I know the shortcuts and the quiet hours. When it’s quiet, I usually just sit and organize the loose change or wipe down the glass counters. Dust is a constant battle here, no matter how much you clean. My family helps out sometimes when things get hectic, but mostly it's just me behind the counter. We carry the basic things like cooking oil, pulses, and some snacks for the school kids. It’s nothing special to look at from the outside, just a regular shop with a blue door. I like the routine of it. Every day is mostly the same, which is fine by me. I’ve learned to listen more than I talk because people like to vent about their day while I bag their items. It’s just how things are at our little corner in Jaipur. We stay open until late because you never know when someone might run out of milk.
