Nidhi Tent House

The yard at Nidhi Tent House stays pretty cluttered most of the time. We are located at 44/117 Kiran Path in Mansarovar. There are piles of metal poles, rolls of heavy colorful fabric, and stacks of plastic chairs everywhere. When there is a wedding or a function, we have to load everything onto the back of a small truck very early in the morning. It is heavy work and my hands are usually a bit rough from handling the ropes and the iron frames. We have been doing this for several years and the neighborhood has grown up all around us. The fabric needs to be washed and dried often because it gets dusty out at the events. Sometimes the rain starts suddenly and we have to run to cover everything with plastic sheets so the carpets don't get ruined. It is not an easy job and the hours are very strange because we often have to take down the tents in the middle of the night after the party is over. We have a small office space where we keep the diary to write down the dates people need the gear. I usually sit there with a cup of tea trying to figure out if we have enough chairs for three different events on the same weekend. We have a few regular workers who come in when the season is busy to help with the heavy lifting and the climbing. It’s hard work but seeing a finished setup makes it feel okay.
