Narayan Dal & Masala Udyog

Narayan Dal & Masala Udyog is located at Plot No. G-1-22 in the Riico Industrial Area. We are out in Didwana, which is part of the Dausa district. The area is very dry and the sun is really harsh most of the year. Our building is basically a large industrial shed where we process different kinds of pulses and grind spices. The smell inside is very strong, especially when we are grinding the chilies or the turmeric. It makes your eyes water if you stay near the machines for too long. I grew up learning how to fix these grinders from my father. They are old and loud, but they get the job done if you grease them properly. We have a small group of workers who come in from the nearby villages every morning. The floor is always covered in a fine yellow or red powder from the spices. We take a long break in the middle of the day because the heat inside the shed becomes too much to handle. We pack everything into plain bags and load them onto the small tempos that wait outside in the dirt lot. It is not a clean or quiet job. By the time I go home, my clothes are covered in spice dust. We don't do anything special, just grind what comes in and send it out to the local markets.
