Panch Batti is a famous spot on M I Road, and our McDonald’s is right in the thick of everything. It is an old part of the city, so the building has a lot of history, even if we are just a fast-food place now. We get huge crowds on the weekends. People come from all over to walk around M I Road and they usually end up here for a meal. We have two floors, so we are constantly running up and down the stairs to check on the seating area and empty the bins. The air conditioning has to work extra hard because the front door never stays shut for more than a few seconds. We have a lot of staff because it is so busy all the time. Sometimes we get stressed when the orders pile up on the screen and the kitchen gets behind during a rush. We just keep going and try to get the bags out. We have had to deal with all sorts of things, from power cuts to flooded streets during the monsoon season. We just light some candles or mop up the water and keep moving forward. The bathrooms are the hardest part to keep clean with so many people coming through every hour. We take some pride in just keeping the place running day after day. It is not a glamorous job, but it is a living for us. We know the local street vendors well.
