Kamal Singh Halwai

We've been here at F-215 in the Lalkothi Yojana area for quite a while now. Most people around Tank Road know where the shop is because of the smell of ghee and sugar that drifts out onto the street every morning. My name is Kamal Singh, and I spend most of my day back in the kitchen making sure the laddoos and barfis are set right. It's a lot of work, especially when the weather gets hot, but it’s what we do. We aren't some big fancy factory or anything. It is just a small spot where we handle everything ourselves from start to finish. Some days are busier than others, especially when there's a festival coming up and everyone wants their sweets at the same time. We try to keep things moving, but sometimes there is a bit of a wait if you come at the wrong hour. We use the same old recipes that have been around forever. Nothing fancy, just the basics like milk, sugar, and nuts. The floor gets a bit sticky sometimes, and the counters are always covered in flour, but that is just how a real halwai shop looks. If you are walking down Tank Road and see the sign, that’s us. We don't really do much advertising or anything like that. Most of our customers are just neighbors who have been coming here for years. It's a simple life, but it keeps us busy and the community fed. We hope to stay right here for many more years to come.
