Jagdamba Tent House

If you go to Brahmpuri Khurra 6, you will see our place, Jagdamba Tent House. It is more of a warehouse than a shop, really. We have stacks of heavy metal poles, bundles of thick canvas, and hundreds of plastic chairs piled up. Everything is a bit dusty because of the material we work with. When there is a big event or a local wedding, it gets very frantic. We have to load everything onto the trucks, and it is heavy, back-breaking work. Sometimes the fabric gets a small tear and we have to stitch it up right there on the spot. We have been doing this for a while, so we know how to set up a tent even when the ground is uneven or the wind is blowing. During the off-season, we spend our time cleaning the carpets and checking the poles for rust. The neighborhood is tight, so we have to be careful when moving the long pipes so we do not hit anyone's wall. It is not a glamorous job, and your hands get rough from the ropes and the metal. We do not have a fancy office, just a small wooden table where we keep the booking diary. People come in to ask about prices for a hundred chairs or a waterproof canopy. We just give them a straight answer based on what we have available in the back. It is just the work we do, getting things ready for people’s big days. Even when it rains, we have to be out there making sure the guests stay dry.
