Govind Tent House

Being right here in Telipara near the Jaipur GPO means we at Govind Tent House are always in the middle of everything. The lanes around Chora Rastar are always crowded, so getting our gear in and out is always a bit of a challenge. We started this because we knew the area well and people kept asking for things for their small home events and festivals. Our space is tucked away, filled with stacks of chairs and bundles of different colored cloths. It gets quite dusty with all the traffic outside, so we are constantly shaking things out before we load them up. We don’t have any big fancy office, just a desk and a lot of storage for the tents and the bamboo poles. Most of our days are spent loading the rickshaws or small vans to send things out to the nearby streets. It’s a lot of physical work, especially when the heat is high in the afternoon and we have to carry things by hand. Sometimes the neighbors come by just to chat or ask about a date they have coming up for a family thing. We try to keep things organized but when it’s the busy season, the place looks a bit like a mess with ropes and rugs everywhere. It’s just how it goes when you’re working with your hands. We’ve seen the market change a lot over the years, but we are still here doing the same basic things. It’s a simple life and we just keep moving.
