Our office is at 3Kha 4(A) in Adarsh Nagar-Raja Park, which is a busy little spot in Jaipur. If you come by, you’ll usually see a couple of our cars parked out front being washed or checked for oil. We spend most of our time on the phone with drivers who are stuck in traffic or customers who are wondering where their ride is. It’s not a glamorous business. My hands usually have a bit of grease on them because I like to check the engines myself instead of just waiting for a mechanic to tell me what’s wrong. We deal with a lot of different people, from tourists who are confused about the city to locals who just need a lift to the hospital or a wedding. The office itself is pretty small and has some old calendars on the wall and a few chairs for the drivers to rest on between trips. We don’t have a big marketing department or anything like that. Word spreads around the neighborhood because we’ve been here for a good amount of time. Sometimes a car breaks down at the worst moment and we have to scramble to find a replacement, which is always stressful. We just try to keep the wheels moving and make sure the fuel tanks stay full for the next trip. It’s just regular work for us, day in and day out, seven days a week.
