Capital Dyeing & Tent Work

Our place is on Station Road, which is always a busy stretch of town. We do two main things here: dyeing fabrics and setting up tents for functions. The back of the shop usually has big vats of colored water and lines of cloth hanging up to dry. It can get pretty humid in there. Then there is the tent side of things. We have piles of iron poles, heavy canvas, and colorful drapes stacked up waiting for the next booking. When someone has a wedding or a big gathering, we load everything onto a rickshaw or a small truck and go set it up. It is hard work, especially when the weather is bad or the ground is uneven. We have been doing this for a long time, so we know how to tie the knots and balance the poles without thinking much about it. Station Road is noisy with all the trains and the people coming from the railway station. We get a lot of walk-in business from folks looking to get a dupatta dyed or someone needing a small canopy for a backyard party. We don’t have a fancy office; it’s just a room full of fabric and metal. We just try to get the colors right and make sure the tents don’t fall down when the wind picks up. It takes a lot of energy to move those heavy poles around, but it is just what the job requires. We keep our schedules on a big paper calendar.
