Architect Shweta Agarwal

I run my practice, Architect Shweta Agarwal, from C 3/ A3 on Swai Jay Singh Highway in the Bani Park area. Jaipur is a beautiful city, and Bani Park is one of the nicer, older parts of it. We are situated near the Renault Showroom, which is a good way for people to find the building. The office is a fairly quiet space, which is good because designing buildings takes a lot of concentration. There are usually drawings spread out over the tables and a lot of pens lying around. It’s not a huge firm with dozens of employees. It’s more of a personal studio where I spend most of my day. I look at site plans, deal with local building regulations, and talk to clients about what they want for their homes or offices. The highway outside can get busy, but inside it feels separate from all that. I’ve lived and worked in Jaipur for a long time, so I’m used to the way things work here. There’s no fancy marketing here, just me and my work. Sometimes I have to go out to construction sites to see how things are progressing, which usually involves a lot of heat and dust. When I’m back at the desk, it’s all about the details and making sure the lines on the paper are right. It’s a slow process sometimes, but that’s the nature of architecture. I just focus on one project at a time and keep things moving. It is a steady way to work.
