Agarwal Tent House

If you go down N B C Road in the Hasanpura C area, specifically near Govinda Bazar, you’ll find our place. It’s more of a warehouse than a shop really. We have stacks of iron pipes and big wooden poles leaning against the walls. There are piles of folded fabrics in all sorts of colors, mostly reds and yellows, that we use to set up tents for weddings and parties. It’s very physical work. Most of our day is spent loading heavy things onto the back of a truck or cleaning the chairs after they come back from an event. Everything gets covered in a layer of dust because of all the movement and the open front of the building. When it’s the season for festivals or marriages, we are barely here at all because we’re out at different sites putting things up. It’s a lot of tying knots and making sure everything is steady so nothing falls over if the wind picks up. The floor is just rough concrete and there’s always a bit of clutter around, like pieces of rope or old metal stakes. We don't have a desk for meetings, just a couple of the same chairs we rent out. People come by to see what colors we have or to tell us when they need the stuff delivered. It’s hard work, especially in the heat, but it’s what we do. We’ve been operating out of this Hasanpura spot for quite some time now.
