Urmilas Kitchen

Urmilas Kitchen is tucked away at 7-45 in the Kundanbagh Colony area of Begumpet. It is a pretty nice neighborhood with a lot of trees and quiet streets. Our kitchen is not a big commercial space like you see in the city center. It is more of a home-style setup where we do all the prep work and cooking. We get started very early in the morning, usually before the sun is even up, to get the stoves going. The kitchen gets quite crowded with all the containers and the ingredients we have to prepare. Begumpet is a busy area, but Kundanbagh Colony feels a bit more relaxed. We have a few ladies from the local area who come in to help with the chopping and the cleaning. There is always someone stirring a big pot or packing food into boxes. We don't have a menu printed on fancy paper or anything like that. We just focus on what we are making for the day. The walls in the kitchen are a bit darkened from the steam, and the cupboards are full of spices and grains. It is a busy, messy, and loud place when we are in the middle of cooking. We like being in this part of Begumpet because it is easy for people to find us. It is just a regular kitchen run by regular people who like to cook. The smell of the food usually brings a few people to the door asking what is for lunch, which we always think is quite funny.
