Our spot is over in Old Alwal, specifically in Venkata Ramana Colony. It’s 1-4-177/B/13 if you’re looking for the gate. We deal with granites, mostly big slabs that take a lot of muscle to move around. The yard stays pretty dusty because that’s just how it is when you’re cutting and loading stone all day long. We started small, just a few types of rock, but now the piles are getting higher. The sun hits the yard hard around noon, so we usually take a break then. Dealing with Secunderabad traffic for deliveries is the biggest headache we face. Sometimes the trucks get stuck for hours near Rangareddi. We spend most of our mornings checking for cracks or chips in the latest batch. If the finish isn't smooth, the customer won't take it, and that’s a lot of heavy lifting for nothing. Most of the guys here have been working together for years. We know each other's pace and how to handle the cranes. It’s not a quiet place to work, what with the grinding and the heavy trucks moving. But it’s what we know. We have a small office where we handle the bills and drink tea. Nothing fancy at all. Just a regular business trying to keep up with the local construction boom. We see plenty of homeowners and small builders coming through every day, usually looking for a specific shade of grey or black stone for their houses.
