Group Financial Controller , Group Of Hotels , East Africa

This office is set up in Flat No 307 at the Visnavi Apartments. We are in Ashish Nagar West Maredpally, which is in Secunderabad. It’s a residential building, so it stays pretty quiet during the day. I handle the financial side of things for a group of hotels that are actually located in East Africa. It sounds like a lot, but mostly it’s just me at a computer looking at spreadsheets and bank statements. I spend a lot of time on emails, checking numbers from far away places. The apartment is comfortable enough. I’ve got a desk near the window where I can see the trees on the street. It’s a lot of sitting and calculating. Sometimes I have to stay late because of the time difference with Africa. My neighbors are mostly families, so I see kids playing in the hallway when I leave for the day. I don’t have a big staff here, just a few files and my laptop. It’s a bit of an unusual setup, working from a flat in Secunderabad for hotels across the ocean, but it works for me. I’ve lived in this area for a long time and I like being able to walk to the local shops for lunch. The work is mostly numbers and making sure everything balances out in the end. It takes a lot of focus and a lot of coffee to stay on top of all the different currencies and accounts. I keep a small fan on my desk.
