Cottage Industries Exposition

We are over in Adams Colony in the Tolichowki area of Hyderabad. Our place is Noor Mohammed Khan's house, number 8-1-355/46. It’s a spot where we keep a lot of our stock like carpets, carvings, and other handmade things. The rooms are often crowded with boxes and items wrapped in plastic to keep the dust off. We spend a lot of time unpacking things that come in from different parts of the country. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the stacks of goods. We don't have a fancy showroom with bright lights. Most of the time it’s just us moving things around and making lists of what we have. Customers come by sometimes but it’s not like a mall. It’s more of a place where the actual work of sorting and storing happens. The neighborhood is lively and you can always hear the sounds of Tolichowki outside the gates. We’ve got rugs from all over and they have that specific earthy smell. Some of the pieces have been sitting for a while and we have to make sure they stay in good shape. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting heavy rolls and checking for any damage. We just do our bit here at Cottage Industries Exposition, keeping track of all these crafts. It’s a simple life and the days go by pretty fast when there is a lot to organize.
