Begum Bazar is always moving. Our office for Carlson Wagonlit Travel is at 14-9-993/2 in Chowari Jhnsi, and if you know the area, you know how busy it gets with the markets. The noise from the street usually makes its way inside, so there’s always a hum of activity. We’ve got a few desks pushed together and a couple of computers that have seen better days. Every day starts with a pile of travel requests and emails from people looking to get from one place to another. We spend a lot of time on the phone, checking flight schedules and seeing what’s available for trains. It’s mostly just us trying to keep everything organized so nobody ends up stuck at an airport. The files are stacked high on the cabinets, and we often have to hunt for a pen that actually works. It gets pretty cramped when everyone is in at the same time, but we make it work. Sometimes the local shopkeepers come by for a chat or to share some snacks. It’s a very local feel here in Hyderabad despite the global name on the door. We don't have any flashy signs or anything. We just sit here, look at maps, and type away at our keyboards until it’s time to head home. The heat in Begum Bazar can be something else, so we keep the fans going at full speed all through the afternoon.
