Astoria Restaurant

We’ve been located in the Saifabad-Khairatabad area of Hyderabad for a long time. Our spot is right opposite the Reserve Bank of India, so it’s a very easy landmark for anyone to find. Being in 500004 means we are in the middle of a lot of government buildings and offices. We get a big lunch rush because of where we are. It’s a traditional kind of setup inside. We haven't changed the decor much over the years because people seem to like it the way it is. It’s got that old Hyderabad feel to it. The kitchen is always busy, especially with the biryani and the local dishes we serve. We have staff who have been with us for decades. It's a noisy place, lots of clinking of plates and people talking loudly over their lunch. We don't really do the whole modern cafe thing with Wi-Fi and slow coffee. It's a restaurant for eating, not just for hanging out with a laptop. Most of our customers are people who have been coming here since they were kids. We see a lot of office workers during the week. On weekends, families come in from all over the city. We try to get the food out fast because people are usually in a hurry. It’s a bit of a landmark itself now, being right across from the RBI. We just keep doing what we know how to do, serving the same plates day after day.
