The office is over in Patel Nagar, specifically at Hno.2-3-603/70/12 in the Amberpet area of Hyderabad. It’s not one of those tall corporate towers you see in the newer parts of the city. Instead, we’re tucked away in a more lived-in neighborhood where there’s always noise from the street and the smell of tea from the nearby stalls. Inside the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation building, it’s mostly just rows of metal desks and a lot of maps taped to the walls. We spend our days answering phones and trying to help people figure out where they want to go for their holidays. It gets pretty hectic during the festival seasons when everyone wants to book a trip at the same time. The air conditioning works most of the time, but we usually keep the windows open anyway to get some air. We have a small kitchen area in the back where we make lunch or heat up tiffins. It’s a government-run spot, so there are a lot of forms to fill out and stamps to be pressed onto papers. Most of the staff has been here for years, so we all know the routines by heart. Sometimes a bus pulls up outside and we have to coordinate with the drivers, which adds a bit of chaos to the morning. It’s just a regular office doing its part to keep things moving for the tourists.
