We work out of an office care of B. Ramnarsaiah at 1-4-882/2 in Mahatmanagar. This is in the Musheerabad area of Hyderabad. It is a busy place because of what we do at the Emergency Management & Research Institute, or what most people just call 108. The phones here do not really stop ringing. It is not a fancy research center with high-tech labs; it is more of a functional space where we manage the emergency responses. There are papers everywhere and charts on the walls to help us keep track of the ambulances and staff. The atmosphere is usually pretty tense because we are dealing with urgent situations all the time. We drink a lot of coffee to stay alert during the long shifts. Musheerabad is a crowded part of the city, so there is always noise coming from the street. We just try to stay focused on the calls and the data. It is not a corporate job where you sit around and have meetings. Every minute counts here. We have been in this Mahatma Nagar spot for a while, and the locals know we are here if something goes wrong. It is tough work, and the office is a bit messy, but we are just trying to keep the system running as best as we can.
