Shobha Nilayam is the name of the house where we work from in the S.S.K. Colony of Yapral. It is on Plot Number 203 in Secunderabad. It’s a bit strange to be working for a cruise line when we are so far away from any ocean but we handle a lot of the local arrangements and recruitment here. People come from all over Andhra Pradesh to talk to us about jobs on the ships. They arrive with their documents and their hopes of seeing the world. We spend a lot of time checking certificates and making sure everyone has their paperwork in order. The office is basically just a room in a residential area so it feels more like visiting a neighbor than going to a big business. We have a lot of files on the desk and pictures of the big ships on the wall to remind us of what we are working toward. It can be a bit overwhelming when we have a lot of applicants waiting outside in the heat. We don't have a fancy waiting room so people just wait where they can. We try to be honest with everyone about how hard the work is at sea. It is a long process to get someone from Secunderabad onto a ship in the U.S.A. but we just take it one step at a time and keep the office running through the busy days.
