Our shop is filled with rolls of carpet and different materials, so it smells a bit like wool and glue most of the time. It’s a bit cramped inside because we try to keep a lot of stock on hand for people who walk in. We don't have a big showroom with bright lights. Instead, we have some old shelves and a heavy wooden desk where we do the accounts. The floor is usually covered in scraps of fabric and thread from when we show samples to customers. It’s a family-run kind of feel here. My hands are usually a bit rough from moving the heavy rolls around all day. We have been in this neighborhood for a long time, so we know most of the people on the street. It gets pretty loud outside with the traffic from Tukaramgate, but we don't mind it. We just open the shutters in the morning and wait for the day to start. We aren't trying to sell anything fancy, just good carpets that last. Sometimes we have a tea break and sit on the steps outside to watch the world go by. It’s a simple way to make a living, and we like it that way.
