Tapsikhata Farmers Producer Company Limited

Our group, Tapsikhata Farmers Producer Company Limited, is located in the Pakuritala area of Alipurduar. We set things up at Suresh Adhikari’s place in Pararpar. It’s a busy little corner of Jalpaiguri where a lot of farmers pass through. We started this because doing everything individually was getting too complicated for most of us. Now, we use this space to coordinate our activities. It’s not a polished business office. You’ll mostly find people in their work clothes sitting around and discussing the harvest. We have a lot of tea and talk about the weather more than anything else. The climate here in North Bengal can be unpredictable, so we try to stay ahead of it together. We handle the collection of crops and see where we can send them. Most of the people involved live just a short walk away. There is always someone coming or going with a tractor or a bicycle. We keep our records in a few ledgers and try to make sure everyone gets a fair deal. It’s practical work. We don’t have a website or anything like that, just a physical spot where people can find us. If you walk down towards Pararpar, anyone can point you to the house. It’s a community thing, really. We just want to make sure the farming life here keeps going without too many problems. We keep the doors open most days unless we are all out in the fields.
