Jain Stone Cutting Industries

We run Jain Stone Cutting Industries over in Maina Wali Gali. If you know where Luhiya Bazar is, we're right there, opposite the Desia Press. It's a dusty place because of all the stone work we do, but that is just part of the job. We've been in Gwalior for many years now. The machines make a lot of noise throughout the day while we are working. We cut different kinds of stones for houses and buildings around here. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know and what we have always done. My family has been doing this for a long while. We don't have a big office or anything, just the workspace and the stones stacked up in the yard. Sometimes the trucks have a hard time getting into the lane because it’s narrow and crowded. We deal with local builders and people who are just fixing up their own homes. The air is always full of that stone smell. We start work when the sun comes up and we don't finish until the work for the day is done. Most of the men working here have been with us for a long time. They know how to handle the blades and the heavy slabs without making mistakes. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s essential for construction. We see a lot of people coming in to check the sizes and the finish of the stones they need. We try to keep things organized, but in a stone yard, there’s always a bit of a mess.
