Durga Batteries

It gets pretty hot here in Sikenderpur during the summer afternoons when the sun hits the front of the shop. Durga Batteries has been sitting on this same stretch for a while now and honestly, the floor is usually covered in some kind of dust from the road work outside. Most days start with dragging the heavy batteries out onto the pavement so people can see we are actually open for business. It is a lot of heavy lifting. My back feels it by the time evening comes around. We deal with all sorts of people coming in from the nearby residential blocks and some commercial guys too. Sometimes the power goes out in the whole area and that is when everyone remembers they need a new inverter battery or just a quick charge. The air inside smells a bit like metal and plastic. There is a small desk in the corner where we keep the old ledger and a couple of plastic chairs for anyone waiting around. It is not a fancy place by any means. Just a simple shop where we keep busy testing cells and tightening terminals. The traffic on the main road can be a real headache when the trucks are trying to unload. We just keep our heads down and get the work done. Usually, we have a tea stall guy come by around four and that is the best part of the day.
