Chettinad Cement

If you drive down the Main Road in Farhatabad Village, you’ll find us at 57/48. We are Chettinad Cement. It’s a simple spot, mostly just a place to store and sell the bags. The village is quiet for the most part, but the Main Road gets some traffic. We get a lot of dust from the road and the cement itself. It’s just part of the job. We don't have an air-conditioned office. Just a desk and a couple of stools. Most of the work involves moving heavy bags from the truck to the floor. It keeps us in shape, I suppose. We talk to builders and local farmers who are fixing up their property. They don't want a sales pitch. They just want to know if we have stock and what the price is today. We try to be straight with them. Some days are slow and we just watch the cars go by. Other days everyone seems to want something at the same time. We don't have a big marketing department. We just rely on being here when people need us. My brother and I run the place. We’ve been here since the building was first put up. It’s not a glamorous life, but it’s ours. We plan on staying here for a long time. There is a sense of peace in knowing what tomorrow will bring.
