Evergreen World School

Our school is tucked away in Gas Godam Lane, right near Vijay Chowk here in Gorakhpur. It’s a bit of a narrow lane, so it gets crowded when school lets out. Most people in the area know exactly where we are because of the landmark. The building has been here through many seasons, through the heavy rains and the dry heat. Inside, it’s mostly just the sound of teachers talking and students shuffling papers. We don't have a giant campus, but we use the space we have. There’s a bit of a courtyard where the kids stand for assembly. In the mornings, you can hear the chatter starting from the gate. We’ve got a staff room that’s always a bit messy with books and tea cups. Gorakhpur can be a busy place, especially around the chowk, so we try to keep the atmosphere inside focused. We spend a lot of time just going through the syllabus and making sure the blackboards are clean for the next day. It’s a simple setup. We know the local shopkeepers and the parents who drop their kids off on cycles. Sometimes the lane gets blocked by a delivery truck, and we all have to wait. That’s just part of being in this part of town. We’ve grown used to the rhythm of the neighborhood. It’s just us doing our jobs and the kids doing theirs. We make sure the registers are signed and the homework is checked before everyone heads home. Nothing too complicated, just a school in a busy lane.
