Thirumalai Flyash Bricks

Our brick yard is located in Solipalayam, right near the Poondurai bus stop. It’s a busy little area with buses and people moving around all day long. We’ve been here in Kasipalayam making fly ash bricks for some time now. It’s mostly just us and the workers out in the sun. Making bricks isn't easy work. You’ve got to get the mix right and then wait for them to set properly. Sometimes the sun is too much and sometimes the rain ruins a whole batch if we aren’t fast enough with the covers. We have a small shed where we sit when the sun is at its peak. Usually, we are just busy loading the tractors or trucks that come in from the nearby towns. The yard is always full of the smell of wet ash and the sound of the brick press. We don’t really have any fancy ways of doing things. We just follow the same steps every day. The workers are local guys who know the job well. We talk to the drivers, drink some tea, and keep an eye on the inventory. It’s a very practical kind of life. We don’t spend money on ads or big posters. People know where the bus stop is, so they find us easily enough. We just try to keep enough bricks ready so that when a builder calls, we aren't empty-handed.
