S S Bricks

We are out on Bhavani Road, specifically at 60 Kaliyamman Kovil Street in Ramanathapuram. This is where we make and sell bricks under the name S S Bricks. It’s a bit of a messy business with the clay and the heat from the kilns, but it’s what we do for a living. You can see the stacks of bricks from the road easily. We have different types depending on what kind of wall someone is building. Some are redder, some are harder. We spend the whole day moving these blocks around by hand or with small carts. It’s physical work. We don't have a fancy office, just a small desk where we keep the accounts and a couple of chairs for guests. People come by with their tractors or small trucks to pick up their loads. We’ve been at this spot for a while now. The neighborhood has changed a bit, but the demand for bricks stays about the same. We don't promise anything fancy, just solid bricks that do the job they are meant for. If a batch doesn't turn out right, we set it aside for rubble. We try to keep a good supply ready because you never know when a big order might come in. It’s a simple operation. My family helps out with the work. We usually start before the sun gets too hot in the morning.
