Om Sweets & Fast Food

Our shop is tucked away in Patparganj, specifically at A-40 in Peer Wali Gali. It's a narrow street, the kind where everyone knows their neighbors. We have both sweets and fast food because that is what people around here want. In the mornings, we focus on the sweets, getting the milk boiling and the sugar ready. The smell of cardamom and ghee starts to drift out into the lane. Later on, we start with the savory stuff. The fryer gets going and we make snacks that people can grab on their way home. We have a few tables but it's a small place. Most of the time, the gali is full of kids playing or people carrying groceries. We see the same families every day. Sometimes they come in for a full meal, other times just for a little something sweet after dinner. We don't use any fancy machines; most of the work is done by hand. It's a lot of stirring and watching the pots. The walls are simple, and we have a few fans to keep the air moving when it gets humid. We've been at this spot for a long time. We've seen the kids in the neighborhood grow up and start bringing their own children here. It's a quiet kind of life, just making food and serving the people who live right next to us. We don't need much more than that to stay happy and occupied.
