I am based out of Simco House on Church Road in Siliguri. The office is in the Ganeshram Compound area, right near that B C Paul off-shop. It’s a pretty well-known landmark around here. My workspace is pretty basic. I’ve got a desk, a couple of chairs for people who drop by, and a lot of folders. Dealing with paperwork in a place like Siliguri means you’re always busy, especially during certain times of the year. The building itself is older, and you can feel the history of the place when you walk up the stairs. It gets a bit damp during the monsoon, but that’s just Siliguri for you. I spend a lot of my time going through documents and talking to folks who need help with their various business matters. It’s not a fancy setup with air conditioning running all day. Usually, I just keep the fan on and have the window open if it’s not too dusty outside. People stop by throughout the day, sometimes just for a quick question. I’ve lived in this town for a long time, so I know most of the regulars on Church Road. It’s a busy street, always something happening. I do not really bother with big signs or anything. My name is on the door and that is about it. It’s a simple way of working. Most days are long, but I like the rhythm of it. It is just me doing my job.
