The Mysore Starch Manufacturing Company

We are tucked away on Chinniah Street in T. Nagar. Number 11 is where we stay. T. Nagar is usually a nightmare for parking, so most of us just take the bus or walk from the station. The office is old, and the floors are that old-fashioned tile that stays cool even when it’s boiling outside. We manufacture starch, so everything in the office usually has a thin layer of white dust on it, no matter how much we clean. It’s just part of the job. The street outside is narrow and sometimes the delivery trucks get stuck, which causes a lot of shouting and honking. We just watch from the window until it clears up. There are only a few of us working here now. We have some very old machines and some newer ones, and they all make a lot of noise when they are running at the same time. We don’t have a website or anything like that, we just talk to people who know us. Most of our customers have been buying from us for twenty years or more. We sit on plastic chairs and drink water from a big clay pot in the corner. It’s not a fancy corporate setup, just a small factory and an office where we do our work and go home to our families. It can get pretty cramped during the harvest season when we are very busy.
