If you find yourself walking down Krishnan Street in Kodungaiyur, you’ll probably hear us before you see us. We are at number 14, tucked away in a spot that gets pretty crowded with delivery trucks some days. Sri Audhilakshmi Industries has been part of this street for years. It’s a tight space, but we’ve learned how to make the most of it. There’s a lot of metal and grease around, which is part of the job. Most of the guys here live close by, so we’ve known each other for ages. We aren't trying to change the world or anything, we just show up and do the work that’s expected. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit outside until it comes back on. It gives us a chance to talk to the shop owners next door. Dealing with suppliers can be a headache, especially with the narrow roads here, but we manage somehow. We have some old desks in the back for the paperwork, though they are mostly covered in files and coffee mugs. It’s not the most organized place, but we know where everything is. People call us up when they need something specific and we try to get it ready by the date we said. It’s a simple routine and it works for us. We just keep the doors open and get through the daily tasks one by one.
