I’m working as a site engineer out of Vadapalani. The address is a bit confusing because of the numbers, it’s Old No: 1 but now New No: 2 on Valliammai Street. It’s right on Nergundram Pathai. I’m staying with P. Chandran there. Chennai-26 is a very busy part of the city. There’s always construction noise and traffic around here. I spend most of my day out at various sites checking on how things are going. Being a site engineer is a lot of walking and talking to different contractors. I don't have a big office. My desk is usually just whatever table is available at the construction site. It’s a very hands-on kind of life. Valliammai Street is where I keep all my gear and files. It’s a small place but it serves its purpose for now. I’ve been in Chennai for quite a while so I’m used to the heat and the busyness. People usually find me through Chandran or just by seeing me at work on other projects. I don’t believe in making things more complicated than they need to be. If a wall needs to be built, you just build it right. That’s basically how I approach every job I take on. It’s simple and honest work. Sometimes the days are very long, but that is part of the engineering business. I just try to stay focused on the task at hand and get the measurements right every time for the builders.
